About
Sophie Fox is a Melbourne-based sculptor. Born in England, she worked primarily in ceramics, stained glass, and acrylics. She graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2019 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts). Sophie, who majored in sculpture, received several awards, including the Rob Ramage Sculpture Award, the Daniel Dorral Art Award, and the Melbourne Global Scholars Award, during her time at VCA.
Her debut solo exhibition, Rhythmic Inverses, at the Motley Bauhaus in Fitzroy North, featured a selection of her acrylic stained-glass sculptures, ceramic text work, and stained-glass sculpture. This exhibition was the first time Sophie experimented with ceramics and textwork.
Sophie has a studio in Melbourne'se’s Fitzroy North on Egremont Street. In 2019, Sophie began working with ceramics, cast porcelain, throwing and jewellery making. Working with Yarra City Council and local businesses, Sophie has organised several markets inviting other emerging female and queer artists to be featured artists.
Self-taught in ceramics through COVID-19, Sophie has moved her studio to her home in Melbourne and is working on throwing new forms, experimenting with glazing techniques and creating a collection of slump moulds.
Sophie has worked as a pottery instructor at 2 Mayfield Street Studio since 2021. As part of the makers team, Sophie worked to develop a line of functional ware with the team. Mayfield Wares launched in February 2024.
SophFox's ceramics, jewellery, and limited sculptures can be purchased directly from her studio in Fitzroy North by appointment. Please do not hesitate to contact Sophie with any inquiries, commission requests, or other queries.
